Welcome

Welcome -

To the Lovatt Research website. My goal is to provide you with easy access to my published research papers. Publications are listed under multiple headings to make finding a specific paper or group of papers relevant to a given topic simple and fast. You can start with the desired crop and then search by topic, e.g., Flowering, Nutrition, Fertilization and Irrigation etc, or select a topic and find publications across crops.

The website provides access to citrus and avocado phenology models. Under Directions & Decision Support, I have provided detailed instructions for the application of Gibberellic Acid (GA3; ProGibb LV PLUS®, Valent BioSicences) at the cauliflower stage of inflorescence development. I have included photos of citrus and avocado nutrient deficiency symptoms in leaves and/or fruit, a gift from Dr. T.W. Embleton and others, and a Table reporting the new ‘Hass’ avocado leaf optimum nutrient concentration ranges. I have also included a Table listing the optimum concentration ranges for seven nutrients in ‘Hass’ avocado cauliflower stage inflorescences (CSI) that are predictive of trees producing yields > 40 kg/tree (~11,200 kg/ha) or > 90 lb/tree (~10,000 lb/110 trees/acre) annually. (Please see: Campisi-Pinto et al., 2017. HortScience 52(12):1707-1715). It is my hope that inclusion of this data will stimulate the undertaking of additional research required for further development of CSI nutrient analysis as a valuable supplemental tool to use with the new leaf optimum nutrient concentration ranges to diagnose and improve ‘Hass’ avocado tree nutrient status and thus, increase yield.

The original webpage was designed by Eric T. Martin, Systems Portfolio Manager, and Sohail Wasif, Creative Lead, Application and Multimedia Development, Information Technology Service (ITS), University of California-Riverside (UCR). Recent changes at UCR, made it necessary to transfer the contents of the website that was under construction to one more consistent with UCR’s standard format on a Drupal platform using Acquia's Site Factory. The current webpage was designed by Ilse Ungeheuer, Digital Communications Manager, Office of the Dean, College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences (CNAS), UCR. Michelle Tabula, Web Analyst (ITS, UCR), provided useful tips regarding the platform and site builder. Subsequent, building of the website and transferring and uploading of all materials was completed by Toan Khuong, Associate Specialist, Botany and Plant Sciences, UCR. The significant contributions of these individuals to the launching of the current website is greatly appreciated.

Finally, the website is dynamic. New publications will be added, along with periodically updated versions of my Curriculum Vitae, which can be accessed below and also under CONTACT, other materials and relevant links; some items may be removed or replaced. I hope you find this website helpful
